Speyer Snapshots: Kicking off the 2021-2022 Year!

We are back! At Speyer, we love words! Astonishing, serendipity, wackadoodle, loquacious, plethora...we could go on and on. But one word we really adore: discover. It is such a great word. It has so many meanings. It can mean "to find out." It can mean "to obtain sight of or knowledge of for the first time." It can mean "to notice or realize."

At Speyer, our students are constantly discovering. We can’t really list them all but just in these first days of school, in Science, our third graders discovered what their face masks look like under a microscope and compared and contrasted what they found about the composition of different types of masks. In their Blackout Poetry assignment, our sixth graders discovered "found poems" within the pages of George Orwell's classic Animal Farm. Meanwhile, our youngest students are discovering how to build a strong classroom community that will be their foundation from which to soar academically and emotionally in the months to come.

And all of our students (and teachers) are re-discovering how much fun it is to be back in school, every day, at 925 Ninth Avenue! Of course, the best part is that this is only the beginning -- we can't wait to see what the bright minds that roam the Boulevard will discover this year!
