Speyer Math-letes Plus Math Competitions Equals Amazing Results
At the end of 2020, our Speyer Math-letes competed in two math competitions. Though the events looked a little different this year due to COVID, this didn't deter our Dragons, who once again dominated (with denominators and more)!
In November, our Math-letes took part in the AMC 8 math contest, using an online format. We'd like to congratulate all of our Speyer participants, whose scores, when combined, produced an average school team score well above the national mean. Aydan E. won Speyer's bronze medal, while Finnegan S. won the silver and earned a place on AMC 8's national honor roll. And the gold medal went to Rohan S., who was one of only 57 students worldwide to achieve a perfect score! It should be noted Rohan is now the second Speyer student to reach perfection on AMC 8, the first being Ethan Joo in 2015.
In December, seventh and eighth graders on the Speyer Math Team had the chance to participate in the MATHCOUNTS version of a "friendly" competition, an informal contest among schools that have registered for the official competition (MATHCOUNTS Manhattan) that will take place in February. Speyer was represented by seventh graders Max B, Conor M, Johji N, and Ruoyu X, and eighth graders Agastya B, Aydan E, Rohan S, and Finnegan S. One of our two teams of four (Agastya, Aydan, Rohan, and Ruoyu) finished second in the city! Rohan tied for the top individual result on the strength of yet another perfect score.
We can look forward to a strong showing next month in the official contest! GO DRAGONS!
