Speyer Girls "Rocket" to California State University, East Bay for Science Fun!

Spotted off the Boulevard and Zooming into California State University, East Bay: our Speyer girls at their first "Rocket Girls" workshop! Joined by Dr. Danika LeDuc, a chemistry professor specializing in biophysical chemistry and Associate Dean at College of Science at Cal State East Bay, this was the kick-off event for a series of workshops just for our girls launched by the Affinity Group for Parents of Girls.

During the afternoon of science fun, the girls explored all sorts of forces and other science concepts such as simple machines and the water cycle. Using a variety of objects they had around the house such as balloons, straws, blocks, and more, they were guided by Dr. LeDuc in a few experiments and had a chance to ask her questions. The workshop wrapped up with a cool scavenger hunt to find simple machines around their homes -- think "A machine that opens things" or "A machine that has only one part" or "A machine that helps you work faster."

It was a fantastic and engaging way to spend the afternoon -- check back for the next Rocket Girls workshop coming soon!
