Speyer Chess News: Two Tournaments = Two Championships!

March was full of moves – chess moves, that is! Recently, our Speyer Chess team competed in two tournaments: the 2022 All Girls NYC Chess Championship and the New York State Championship. We have the full report below!

During the first weekend in March, our Speyer Girls Chess team competed in the 2022 All Girls NYC Chess Championship and brought home first place, making them the New York City Elementary Champions! In addition, Ziva M. went undefeated to tie for first and is now the NYC Elementary Co-Champion!

Huge congrats to our amazing team of 7:

It was then time for our entire Speyer Chess team to head to the state tournament. Over the long weekend in mid-March, our Dragons took on schools from around New York State, battling move after move, game after game. Once again, our Speyer teams proved unstoppable: our Speyer K-3 (Primary) Team is now the New York State Champions and the K-1 and the Middle School teams both finished the tournament in second place! Many students also played in the "Reserve" section, where two Speyer teams also finished second in their respective sections.  And, last but not least, we have a special shout-out to Brewington H., who won all 6 games and is the NYS Middle School Chess Champion!
