Speyer Chess Brings Home TWO National Championships...and SO MUCH MORE!
It was only fitting that during the season of joy last December, Speyer Chess brought home much for us to be joyful about! Speyer Chess trekked to Orlando, Florida to compete in the 2019 Scholastic Chess Grade Nationals. Our 35 Speyer students, accompanied by their parents and three of our dynamic coaches, went head to head (or pawn to pawn?) against more than 1,748 scholastic K-12 chess players. The result?
TWO National Championship team titles for Kindergarten and 4th Grade! In fact, all Speyer Chess teams ended in top 10 for each division and placed third in the K-6 Blitz! We had many individual awards as well, including Lucas Y., who came in first place and is the National Champion for Kindergarten!
Congratulations to all of our Speyer chess players for an extraordinary display of hard work, talent, teamwork, and good sportsmanship – and a sincere thank you to our dedicated coaches (John, Milos, and Sean) and Speyer Chess parents for their time and support throughout the weekend.
