Dragon Athletics Finish Up the Fall Season!

As journalist Heywood Broun famously wrote, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” Throughout the fall season, our Dragon student-athletes revealed time and time again what they are made of: determination, resilience, and optimism. Recently, our Girls Volleyball, 5/6 Soccer, and 7/8 Soccer teams all played their final games to wrap up their seasons.

Dragon Volleyball trekked to the courts over at John Jay College for their last game. With Speyer spirit and focus, the team fought hard, but lost to Gaynor. The season was full of fun and solid teamwork, and all of the Dragons are looking forward to next year!

Our 5/6 Soccer team met Cathedral, aiming to keep their winning streak intact. The Dragons’ defensive strength combined with some goal-making power skills proved too much for the opposing team, and Speyer won 13-4! High-fives to the scorers: Teo E., Tiago K., Navio L., Johji N., Ian N., Zachary V., and Sam Z.

Coming off of their previous win, the 7/8 Soccer team was energized to go head-to-head against Columbia. At the end of a tight match, it was Speyer on top, 3-0! With this win, the Dragons ended the season in third place in the division! Shout-out to scoring by Anton E., Ari S., and Philip M.!

We congratulate all of the Dragons and the Speyer coaches on their fabulous seasons, and a huge thank you to all of the parents and fans who came and supported on the sidelines. A special high-five to all of the parents who sent us photos from the games and fabulous photographer Ethan David Kent!
