Dragon Athletics: Wrapping Up the Season With Determination (and Wins)!

Dragons on the field! Dragons on the court! Dragons…in the playoffs! Yes, our Dragons were everywhere, as the regular season for Soccer and Volleyball came to a close. What happened in the final games and who’s headed to the playoffs? We’re back with all of the latest athletic news for you!

Over the past few weeks, the 5/6 Soccer showed their determination, with two wins and one loss. They defeated Bank Street 2-1 and smashed The School at Columbia 13-2, after falling short Rodeph Sholom 8-3. This type of teamwork defined the 5/6 Soccer season, and they enjoyed a nearly undefeated record, finishing with four wins in five games. Most importantly each of our 24 student-athletes progressed over the course of the season in skill, commitment, and character, which undoubtedly aided in their resilience and ability to end the season with aforementioned win over The School at Columbia after the tough loss the day before.

Speyer’s 7/8 Soccer ended the season with two tough losses to Bank Street (4-2) and Avenues (5-0), yet this team was full of determination all season long. The Dragons displayed great perseverance and grit behind the leadership of Dylan G. and Hugh K. The future looks bright for this team, as we hope to have 10 of our 12 players returning next fall to be joined by a group of dynamic rising seventh graders!

And drumroll please…we’re in the Volleyball playoffs! Boo-yah! Yes, Speyer’s Volleyball finished the season with two wins of 2-0 over both Gaynor and The School of Columbia, clutching a seat at the playoff table! It was an amazing regular season of firsts! We hosted our first home game, got our first win, and had six first-time players on our roster. The team had much success behind the leadership of Tori B. Maya D-R., Grace K., and Clancy S., winning four games this season. The future of Speyer Volleyball is very bright with standout performances from our fifth and sixth grade players in this week’s win over The School at Columbia. Stay tuned for the results of the playoffs in the next view!

We congratulate all of our Dragon student-athletes on a fabulous kickoff to Speyer’s 2018-2019 athletic year!
